Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Persistent Failings and Player Response

Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
