Brian Eno Calls On Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.

A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.

An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it fails to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”

Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.

“The song holds a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we merit as a people.”

Production History and Featured Artists

The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.

The impressive roster of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a group of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The track features a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.

The team running the project have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.

“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”

The context in the territory was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.

“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”

The song is launching this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
