Israelis have come together across the country to mark two years since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely deadliest day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," the leader added on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "achieve all the aims of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again present a risk to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still were held across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the agreement.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the discussions indicated that an night meeting of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The official explained the morning session finished without significant progress, amid disagreements over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not recommence hostilities after the opening period of the arrangement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are working hard to close the disparities between the both parties.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of troops from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future management of the region

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling survived the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - told: "Nowhere appears as home now and until each abducted person are released no one will have peace of mind."

"After we see everyone home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people gathered to show their support for the families of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev stated: "We must do any agreement necessary for the hostages to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that about the majority of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to end in as payment for the freedom of the abducted.

Palestinian Conditions

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From there, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the severe Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, attacks were noted in the morning of that day in the western neighborhood, area and locality districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"As the night arrives, the dread appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, clinging, notably my little child who places his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we look at the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."

Medical Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the midday, including three killed in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the south region of that area said two more dead people had been brought there. One of them was lost his life by Israeli troops while seeking help to the south region, health workers said.

The territory's health ministry announced 25 of the {territ
