The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I declared I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, and its impact for the team. Jota died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is difficult. Impossible.”
