The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
