The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
