This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
