Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "devastating" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.

Jokic was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental contact with team-mate Jones.

His teammate stepped on the footwear of the MVP, and he immediately went down to the ground clutching his knee.

The 30-year-old, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup before sustaining the problem.

He will have an MRI on the following day to evaluate the severity of the injury.

"Right away, Jokic knew there was a problem," commented Nuggets head coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, especially a player as special as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, currently, I am focused just about him as a person and the letdown of facing an event like that."
